The Ridge Park

The Ridge Park is a flat road located above Gangtok town, just a short fifteen-minute walk from the main market. It features notable landmarks like the White Hall and the Chief Minister's official residence, known as Mintokgang, which means"blossomed crowned hilltop."On one end of the Ridge, there's the Palace Gate with a pagoda rooftop, and on the other end, there's a roundabout adorned with a statue of Nehru, India's late Prime Minister.

You'll also find a resting shed with Tibetan architecture on the Ridge. The area is surrounded by plants and trees that burst into a riot of colors when they bloom. Flower shows held below the Ridge attract tourists from all around the world.

From the Ridge, you get a clear view of the road winding up along the Chola range toward Nathula, the border between India and China. In 1967, there was a confrontation between India and China at Nathula, although the area had been quiet since 1962.

Long ago, there used to be a small market called Sudder Bazaar with a few shops lined along the Ridge. However, in the early twenties, this market was moved to its present location at M.G. Marg.
