Yumthang, nestled at a lofty altitude of 12,000 feet, is about 135 kilometers away from Gangtok in North Sikkim. It feels like stepping back in time when you visit, as it's remote and wonderfully untouched by modern life. One of its main attractions is the natural hot springs, which are just a short walk from the road, across a pedestrian bridge over the River Lachung. Here, visitors can enjoy the soothing warmth of sulphur-rich water that flows from a spring behind a hut, collected into two pools for bathing. It's quite surreal to find such hot water in such a cold place!

Yumthang has also caught the attention of filmmakers due to its stunning scenery, with picturesque mountains seeming to reach the sky. The journey from Lachung to Yumthang is breathtaking, especially in May when rhododendrons bloom in various colors, unlike those found elsewhere in Sikkim.

To visit Yumthang, tourists need an Inner Line permit, which can be arranged through travel agents. During the tourist season, the Tourism Department offers package tours to Yumthang. Private vehicles aren't allowed, but accommodation options like the Forest Department Rest House and the Yaksey Tourist Lodge are available nearby.

Yumthang itself has a sparse population, mainly consisting of nomadic yak herders. Further ahead, about 23 kilometers from Yumthang, are the Yumey-Sarndong hot springs, located near the Donkiala pass. These hot springs offer another relaxing retreat amidst nature's wonders.

Phurchachu Reshi Hot Springs

Located approximately 25 kilometers from Gyalshing near Reshi, these hot springs are renowned for their medicinal properties due to the presence of sulphur. People from all over Sikkim and neighboring Darjeeling come here, especially during winter, to enjoy the healing waters. The springs are also considered holy, as they house one of the four holy caves known as Kadosang Phu or the cave of the occult fairies.

Kechopari Lake

Situated at an altitude of about 6,000 feet, Kechopari Lake is aptly named the Wishing Lake. Surrounded by dense forest, the lake's crystal-clear waters remain serene, with not even a leaf floating on its surface. Legend has it that if a leaf does fall, a bird swiftly retrieves it. A trekkers' hut near the lake provides convenience for visitors looking to explore this enchanting spot.
